Airbnb has been getting a lot of criticism online as fees seem to be skyrocketing and a lot of people have realized it’s no longer the cheap alternative to hotels. And unlike a hotel, you won’t see your host eating breakfast in their pajamas outside your bedroom door. Or find cameras in the toilet. Or discover the cleaning fee you paid did not cover any cleaning before you arrived at your crusty rental.
What I’m saying is, a lot of things can go wrong at an Airbnb and you will have no way to get your money back to receive any corporate assistance, unlike at Motel 6.
On Monday, Twitter user @RVAReid got everyone on the app all stirred up when he started complaining about Airbnb.
“I personally don’t f–k with AirBnBs like that,” he wrote. “They were a good idea in theory. But once they start being priced the same as hotels, it was like what’s the point? And I spend the first 30 minutes every time searching for cameras whenever I go to one.”
He also shared a story about how he rented a place once through the platform and was told he would have the apartment to himself. Instead, he found his host was right there with him!
The viral tweet brought out all sorts of complaints and stories from other people who have had awful experiences with Airbnb, and they were all too happy to warn the rest of us away from renting through them. Anything bad that could happen did, from finding blood to losing $5,000. I was thinking of doing a summer weekend away somewhere cute, but now, I just might check into a Hilton.
