A viral TikTok video is seriously resonating with people across the U.S. who are frustrated to see the coronavirus pandemic come back with a vengeance, almost entirely due to unvaccinated people. In the case of TikTok user Jason Arena, even though he and his wife were vaccinated months ago, the local surge in COVID-19 hospitalizations thanks to unvaccinated folks who came down with the illness directly impacted their ability to get Arena’s wife treatment for her stage four breast cancer.
“Hey folks, how you doing, I just got a quick question about this whole COVID not getting vaccinated and running to the f—ing hospital once you get the virus f—ing deal, ’cause this s–t is out of f—ing control,” said Arena.
Arena then shared the story about how his wife was checked into the hospital due to complications from her cancer that required fluid to be drained from her body over the course of a few days to stop the pain and relieve pressure on her system. Unfortunately, what should have been four days of inpatient treatment was reduced the three, with doctors discharging her a day earlier than they wanted to because they needed the hospital bed. The hospital was overwhelmed with COVID-19 cases.
This did not sit well with Mr. Arena, and he was left with some questions for the anti-vaxxers fueling this latest wave of the pandemic.
“If you don’t trust the medical field to prevent you from getting it, why do you trust them to cure you from it?”
“Stick to your f—ing guns and keep your motherf—ing ass at home,” he continues. “Stop running to the hospital, putting everybody else at f—ing risk and in turn the collateral damages– people like my wife who actually need medical f—ing help for a chronic disease but get kicked out of the hospital because your dumb a– is too stupid to go get a f—ing vaccine shot.”
“If you really believe COVID’s not a big deal, prove it.”
While there have been reports of breakthrough cases and varying results in studies on how effective the vaccine is in protecting people from contracting the hyper-contagious delta variant, the vast majority of people hospitalized with COVID-19 now are unvaccinated. Arena initially put that number at 99 percent, but after being challenged, did some research and revised that statistic down to 95 percent in a follow-up video. This small difference did nothing to change his mind on anything he said in his now-viral video.
“I don’t understand how you don’t believe in science to prevent disease but all of sudden you’ll run to the hospital to take every experimental drug they’ll give you to save your life,” he told HuffPost. “It makes no sense.”
While anti-vaxxers have been working to get Arena suspended from TikTok by taking advantage of the platform’s highly criticized reporting system, everyone else is praising him for saying what many of us have been thinking.
