The year 2020 has not been an easy one. After 2019, which was also no picnic, everyone hoped that the new decade would give us all a break and that 2020 would be a good one. Instead, it’s started with a presidential impeachment and then went straight into a global pandemic of a deadly novel virus that will likely change human society forever.
It’s no surprise that, in the early days of the crisis, many individuals tried to convince themselves and others that it wasn’t going to be as bad as experts said it would be. Unfortunately, their dreams didn’t come true, and now the internet is littered with poorly-aged jokes and bad takes about the pandemic or simply about how 2020 would go.
The best are those who made harmless 2020 jokes and came back to admit that they were dead wrong. The worst are every March tweet by Bill Mitchell. Many get worse and worse the more time goes on. Still, it’s hard to look away from so many people being so hilariously and devastatingly wrong about the future.
