The Bidens visited former president Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, last week at the Carter Center, and the photo shared of the encounter is driving people nuts.

Some critics are choosing to focus on the fact that none are wearing masks in the photo (the Bidens and the Carters have all obviously been vaccinated by this point), but most people are more concerned about how utterly strange the picture looks.

Now, people tend to shrink a little bit as they get older, but the Bidens are practically looming over the Carters — and their furniture. 

The warped perspective had some questioning whether it was photoshopped, or if there’s something else going on here, but it turns out the explanation is pretty simple.

As explained by The Guardian and their photo expert, the picture was likely taken with a wide-angle lens, which ultimately distorted the perspective.

But even knowing a wide-angle lens is likely to blame for this photographic oddity didn’t stop Twitter from freaking out — and coming up with some pretty good jokes in the process.
