Ivanka Trump has never been known for saying the right thing. And a recent tweet about staying home with kids during the coronavirus outbreak is no exception to the rule.
The president’s daughter and, for some reason, advisor shared her thoughts on coming up with a creative way to entertain kids while everyone stays at home and practices social distancing.
“Staying home today w/ kids? Plan living room camp out!” she wrote. “Throw a bedsheet over some taped together brooms. Plan a menu & ‘pack’ sandwiches, salads (S’mores optional). A fun activity that also brings family together for a meal!”

Plan living room camp out!
Throw a bedsheet over some taped together brooms. Plan a menu & ‘pack’ sandwiches, salads (S’mores optional😜)
A fun activity that also brings family together for a meal!

Posting frivolous tweets that essentially amount to turning a crisis into a family-friendly staycation just aren’t going to go over well when you’re part of both the administration and the family that’s currently being blamed for botching the coronavirus response in America. With both hospital supplies and tests running short, it’s not unreasonable to think Ivanka should perhaps be doing something with her time other than building tents in the living room.
Chrissy Teigen, for one, was ready to tell her as much.
“After we quote pack unquote sandwiches can we please get Covid tests,” she responded.

She also pointed a somewhat bizarre part of Ivanka’s tweet, potentially highlighting what Trump’s daughter thinks of the average American.
also that’s a clothing rack but yeah america only understands “taped together brooms”— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) March 18, 2020
Of course, Teigen wasn’t the only one ready to rip into Ivanka over her tweet.
Schools are closing, workplaces are closing, financial instability is on the rise, and many who still have a job don’t know what to do about childcare.
She did not build that "tent fort".— Overmedium ✌ (@S54083642) March 17, 2020
She's a prominent member of his staff. She also caused it. We need to stop calling her an enabler. She is a co conspirator who also works with Miller on border policies. This daddy's girl narrative needs to stop.— NK (@kash_neha) March 17, 2020
I want to see the pictures when your “help” calls in sick and all you have is yourself to keep the family afloat. #TogetherApart— Fohtohgirl💎 (@fohtohgirl) March 17, 2020
No one can possibly be this clueless. She knows single moms have to figure out how to get to work with their kids home from school, people are desperate to ensure elderly relatives are cared for, people are trying to afford enough food in advance to get by for a couple of weeks. https://t.co/56OsfsCnNu— Joyce Alene (@JoyceWhiteVance) March 17, 2020
Make some sandwiches! Make some salads! Bake a cake with a file in it!— Elayne Boosler (@ElayneBoosler) March 17, 2020
And of course, there’s also that ever-present bit about how America is still holding kids in cages.
This is adorable but wouldn't it be even more fun with chain-link fences and a concrete floor and flimsy foil blankets? And who needs s'mores when you get a cup of water every single day? #TogetherApart pic.twitter.com/5pzwzUZTwW— lolita shatter (@shatterlo) March 17, 2020
Thousands of parents are locked in detention centers tonight w/their children.— RAICES (@RAICESTEXAS) March 18, 2020
They are squashed in beside others.
Some are pregnant.
There's no s'mores.
There's report that the virus is in one center.
There's not enough soap.
Parents are literally scared to death. https://t.co/2PHVeJmfur
Yes! And if you need warmth in your living room camp, you can set fire to some of the money you’ve gotten from Russians! Or if you need entertainment, you can wheel in some caged Central American kids and make them perform tricks for you.— Uncle Blazer (@blakesmustache) March 17, 2020
Get creative and let’s make this fun!
We’re in the middle of a literal worldwide crisis, Ivanka. The world is watching. Maybe try something other than building sheet tents in the living room for your next trick. As Chrissy Teigen suggested— helping us get access to COVID-19 tests, perhaps?? Just a thought!
