Donald Trump Jr. and tweet possibly outing the whistleblower

Don Jr. Slammed For Outing Alleged Whistleblower On Twitter Amid Death Threats

Donald Trump Jr. took a quick break from pimping out his book in order to tweet out a Breitbart article with a name that right-wing outlets have been circulating, claiming it to belong to the Ukraine scandal whistleblower. This happened the day after Rand Paul got on stage at Trump’s Kentucky rally to demand that “the media” publish the identity of said whistleblower because he said so.

The Breitbart article names “RealClearInvestigations” as the source of the name. The outlet is a part of “RealClearMedia,” Aa right-wing organization with a secret Facebook page it uses to push far-right memes dripping in Islamophobia and pro-Putin propaganda.

The whistleblower’s lawyer, Mark S. Zaid, declined to confirm or deny whether the name is accurate but condemned the attempts to name his client, saying they “will simply place that individual and their family at risk of serious harm.”

Zaid and the rest of the whistleblower’s legal team have argued that the name of their client is not relevant and that he deserves protection as an official whistleblower who followed the letter of the law, and that attempts to name him are simply in the name of retaliation. Plus, naming whistleblowers sends a message that could keep others from coming forward in the future.

“We will not confirm or deny any name that is published or promoted by supporters of the President. Disclosure of any name undermines the integrity of the whistleblower system and will deter any future whistleblowers,” Zaid wrote. “We will note, however, that publication or promotion of name shows desperation to deflect from substance of #whistleblower complaint.”

Right-wing individuals have already posted clear death threats targeting the whistleblower before anybody thought they knew his name, saying that he “should be shot,” among other things. His legal team has also reported receiving death threats themselves.

At the very least, Don Jr. seems desperate for attention for his new book, released yesterday, as he claims liberal media has been “triggered” by his trumpeting of the potential whistleblower’s name.

Seems like you are the one who is hashtag triggered, Donnie.

Pretending he’s not a public figure and claiming that “news outlets” that only a small subset of far-right trolls take seriously already published the name weeks ago hasn’t protected Don Jr. from criticism, and may not protect him from the long arm of the law.

Don Jr. has already posted several tweets being all kinds of mad that other people are condemning him for signal boosting the potential name of an individual who has already received death threats. No victims cards for that guy, though, right?
