The House of Representatives held its first public impeachment hearing today with attendees including diplomats Bill Taylor and George Kent who were present to provide testimony about Trump’s dealings with Ukraine.
But those who were following along may have noticed one attendee who stood out more than the rest, a drag queen clad in a shining red dress and enormous wig who was filmed entering the Longworth House Office Building to attend the hearing.
As Myles told NBC News:
“It’s a crazy day in Washington! I’m flipping my wig over the high-energy proceedings today. Tensions are high, and the bar for who’s allowed in the Longworth House is very, very low.”
If a number of awe-struck tweets are any guide Myles quickly stole the show in the halls of power.
A drag queen going through security at the impeachment hearings is seriously relatable content. pic.twitter.com/D8MGbHiROj— Alexander Kacala (@TheFaymeReport) November 13, 2019
good morning to literally none of you except the drag queen who's at the capitol to watch today's impeachment hearing— danny nett (@dannynett) November 13, 2019
The serious (and hours-long) nature of these hearings can result in a fairly dry affair, no matter how dire the subject matter, so the presence of entertainers is always appreciated.
Myles joins the ranks of other notable attendees in hearings past, such as when Alyssa Milano appeared prominently in the background of the Brett Kavanaugh hearing, a cameo immortalized by SNL.
