Working in customer service is painful, because the biggest part of your job is keeping everyone who comes into your establishment happy. And that’s basically impossible, because so many people are stupid and terrible. They’ve also had the words “the customer is always right” drilled into their heads, so you can’t correct them—even if it’s for their own good.
Twitter user @baz00per started a conversation about the “dumbest thing a customer has gotten mad” at a service worker for, sharing their own story of waiting on someone at a sushi restaurant. The customer got mad about a straw being in her drink because of “saving the oceans” but proceeded to eat a ton of wild-caught fish. If you haven’t heard, that’s very, very bad for the oceans.
what’s the dumbest thing a customer has gotten mad at you for? i’ll start, last week i had a woman yell at me for putting a straw in her soda cup because “we need to save our oceans” and then proceeded to order a $55 party boat of raw fish because this is a fucking sushi bar— corgi queen (@baz00per) August 25, 2019
They just couldn’t stop thinking about it:
i have been thinking about this interaction for approximately seven days straight

There were so many responses, they had to mute the thread, but they took a valuable lesson from the conversation. All service workers should get to pop off at least once a year.
i muted this so i can’t see the quote tweets anymore but the lesson here is that no matter where you work i think you should have the right to have one day a year where you can yell back at a customer for being absolutely fucking stupid thank you goodnight

I think that’s a fair compromise, and so will you after reading all of these:
This lady came in with her daughter and demanded that we give her something to cover the top of the fitting room with bc “the cameras point in there. He (my manager) SHOWED me them in the back!” (They don’t……..) So she stood there like this while her daughter tried on clothes pic.twitter.com/pE5G7ilkyB

He stared at me for like 30 seconds and then asked, “So like..I have to pay for those??”
He was dead serious

6 yrs ago. This lady had the OPTION of rice or bread. She chose rice otp. Got mad because she couldn’t get both at pickup. We go back &forth for 15-20min. My manager, annoyed, gives her both. She responds “I don’t even eat bread, it’s just the principle.” WHAT??? pic.twitter.com/6Wg8SU1OCy

I work at Vans and just yesterday I was asked where the other locations would be – when I said “sorry, Idk”- the lady proceeded to yell for my manager, who was right next to me, and proceeded to yell that I NEED to know these things.
Because ya know- she couldn’t look it up

some man walked into the kitchen to give me another server’s bill and when i asked him to step out of the kitchen, he threw a temper tantrum and called me names and slurs and threatened to have me fired. He has been 86’d from the establishment ever since.

Had a lady call the store and place an order for collection, let her know we were busy and it would be 35 minutes. She showed up exactly 7 minutes after placing the call and was mad she had to wait. She couldn’t have been more rude the whole time she was waiting.

a customer came out and ordered a 1.5lb pretzel half way through avengers endgame and i told him it would be about a 3-5 minute wait and he proceeded to yell at me telling me he shouldn’t wait because he’s in the military….

Had a customer ask me if I was f*in deaf at the speaker when I asked them to repeat their order when I couldn’t hear them over their loud truck. They then proceeded to offer me their hearing aids when they pulled around for me to give them their order.

People get mad at me for when I don’t let them take pictures of the pictures I’m selling of them. I’m a photographer at a restaurant and my pay is either minimum wage or 25% commission for each day
