A hair and makeup artist who goes by the name of Kristian on social media shared an exchange she endured with a friend of a former customer who turned out to be unfortunately homophobic. The individual asked Kristian if she was gay, and when she received an affirmative, declared that they “don’t want a gay person doing my wedding.”
Her loss. Kristian is clearly good at what she does, and $115 for both hair and makeup is a bargain.
openly sharing who i am with the world is my choice; a choice i will never apologize for. i love what i do and who i am. today i was taken back a little bit. homophobia is a real issue still in 2019. please just be kind to everyone you meet. pic.twitter.com/mTGbcKl55T— kristian (@Kristiantayyy) June 12, 2019
Kristian decided to share the exchange to show that “homophobia is a real issue still in 2019” and to ask everyone to “please just be kind to everyone you meet.”
The exchange starts out innocently enough, with the potential customer asking for prices and then inquiring if she can ask Kristian a few questions. The first question, unfortunately, turned out to be “are you gay?”
Kristian, probably sensing what was coming, said yes and then asked “what does that have to do with your wedding or my services?”
The bride answers that she doesn’t want “a gay person doing my wedding,” which, again, her loss. But it probably would have ended there as Kristian replied with a very amicable “that’s totally fine, you have a nice day!”
But homophobia is never that easy, is it?
“I still have more questions,” the bride says. Really? “How can you be a latina [sic] woman and be gay?”
She then goes on to explain, apparently assuming that every Latinx person is Catholic, that being gay is a “sin” and that she’s “sorry that you’ve chosen a path that’s going to send you straight to hell.”
Sure you are, Karen.
This homophobe then has the nerve to say that if Kristian would change her mind about being gay “let me know please so i can book you.”
Kristian did not respond after wishing the homophobic bride a nice day, instead opting to share the exchange on Twitter. Her tweet has received nearly 50,000 retweets and over 219,000 likes, with people flooding in to show their support for her and all LGBTQ+ people.
Christianity is an accepting faith at heart and I’m sorry that this woman isn’t following that. Church is for EVERYONE! You do NOT have to put on your Sunday best and hide your sin to enter. God bless you and happy pride ????️???? https://t.co/KusacsMHgJ— Emma (@Ecat2152) June 13, 2019
Christians, please do better. This "you're going to hell" approach is not what Jesus would have done. Do things with love, or don't do them at all. https://t.co/mjMauWjFMy— ???????????????????????????????? (@itsmichg) June 13, 2019
ooooooo I'm fuming. If this beautiful person wasn't based in Texas, I'd have them do my wedding makeup. ❤️❤️❤️ You are valid and loved! https://t.co/s4XdRnIhed— ???????????????????????? ???????????????????? (@molliloumelon) June 13, 2019
What a disgraceful thing to say to someone. Kristian, I saw your short vid on Facebook and you do beautiful work!! And don't listen to the naysayers. They're just jealous because you're doing what makes you happy ❤ https://t.co/q8r58Mgndl— Sara (@SaraLiz36) June 13, 2019

People need to stop using God's name as an excuse to be an asshole & disrespect other people. “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." https://t.co/Nti3r6HL7Y— Arelis ↔ Lily (@amerino_21) June 12, 2019
And judging someone will not send u to hell? Hope her husband to be doesnt have a boyfriend cause life has a way of humbling us???? https://t.co/gn56zA0ypf— Slightly Sane (@1_demongyal) June 13, 2019
OMG read the text exchange! The poor Christian lady not only thinks this woman will 'change' her sexuality for a couple hundred bucks, but also thinks she's stumbled upon the only gay person in the wedding industry! Oh, Christian lady, life holds so many surprises for you! https://t.co/x5fReczrxj— How-To Heretic (@howtoheretic) June 12, 2019

Yall can say that gay people try to shove their sexuality and beliefs in your face, because it does happen occasionally. However, they aren't the only people that do this. YOUR beliefs pertain only to YOU. Mind your own business and this world will be a much better place. https://t.co/BLtd10aB2T— Isaiah Wolfert (@IsaiahWolfert) June 13, 2019
Tell them you "changed your mind about being gay," get booked, then announce at the wedding you decided to "change your mind" again. https://t.co/Ag0icv1Nxm— Hawkin Slusarski (@_Ferrucci_) June 12, 2019
Hopefully Kristian now has enough business to fill up her schedule for as long as she needs. She should, because those eyebrows?
