The most common manipulation tactic is to mock something when you can’t defend yourself against it. Donald Trump has already tried it with Greta Thunberg, the amazing 16-year-old environmental activist pressing for government action against climate change. His bullying didn’t work, nor did his role model Vladimir Putin’s attempt to discredit and belittle her by claiming that while he believes she’s “kind,” she probably doesn’t know how the world works.
“I may disappoint you but I don’t share the common excitement about the speech by Greta Thunberg,” Putin said during an energy conference in Moscow on Wednesday, according to Insider. “No one has explained to Greta that the modern world is complex and different and … people in Africa or in many Asian countries want to live at the same wealth level as in Sweden.”
As if his initial statement wasn’t offensive and condescending enough, he doubled down by adding, “I’m sure that Greta is a kind and very sincere girl. But adults must do everything not to bring teenagers and children into some extreme situations.”
Considering the “adults” making these decisions will be dead soon, perhaps they should be listening to “teenagers and children” who are actually concerned about what’s happening to the planet as we continue to destroy it. No? OK then.
Thunberg, of course, was unphased by Putin’s comments and instead of responding directly, she changed her Twitter bio in the ultimate troll move. It now reads “A kind but poorly informed teenager,” basically proving what most of us already know: Greta Thunberg is the hero we all need on multiple levels.

Russia‘s economy is based on gas&oil, so Putin’s statement is not a big surprise. But interesting how scared the establishment is about Greta. She is recognized to be a danger for them.— DJ Bojo (@bojo_dj) October 3, 2019
Plenty of Twitter users spoke out in support of Thunberg, slamming Putin for his lack of care for climate change as well as applauding Thunberg for her continued perseverance in the face of so many powerful people who would wish to silence her. Keep going, Greta!
