Yet another ICU worker who is fed up with the way people in the United States are refusing to wear masks is speaking out.
Video shared to Reddit shows the respiratory therapist asking about where the “blatant disregard for human life is coming from.”
“Proposing a rally, a political event, so that people can eat, and you can make money, is disgusting,” she said. “I don’t ask people ‘Are you Republican? Are you a Democrat?’ I don’t even get to ask them if they’ve been wearing a mask. I just have to help them.”
It’s unclear how current the video is, but considering President Trump began holding rallies regularly again in August, it’s possible it was in reference to one of those — particularly considering Trump has jumped right back on the campaign trail after testing positive for COVID-19 and spending a short time in the hospital.
But this healthcare worker doesn’t believe that political rallies are worth endangering people’s lives.
“We’re running out of rooms,” she continued. “What people don’t understand is this is very real. Just ‘cause you don’t get to see it doesn’t mean it’s not happening. HIPAA is there, and we can’t tell you about it, but what I can tell you is, wearing a mask is not a big deal. Just wear the damn thing. I don’t want to have to sit here and cry with you about how you’re probably not going to make it.
“I have seen more 60-year-old men cry in the last few weeks than I have in my entire life. And the 80-year-old grandmas that have to have their birthdays through the window, and they die the next day.”
With all the heartbreaking stories coming out of the pandemic of people losing their loved ones, it’s not difficult to empathize with where she’s coming from.
“Just stop. Wear the damn mask. And just, let’s all live,” she offered in a final plea. “Let’s all make it through this because it’s garbage. Utter disregard for human life.”
