Star Wars lead actor John Boyega impressed fans in 2017 by sharing that one of his first big purchases with the money he made from The Force Awakens was a house for his parents.
“I bought my mom and dad a house,” he told Entertainment Tonight’s Nichelle Turner. “I mean that’s a way to do it. You know, I also think that’s giving back to my king and my queen. So that’s what I did.”
That news was cute enough, but now there’s a video out showing their reaction when Boyega broke it:

Apparently, Boyega tricked his parents into thinking they were going to be interviewed and brought them into the house he had purchased for them with cameras. He then proceeded to thank them for all of the support they had given him as he worked to become the incredibly successful actor he is today and dropped the bomb.
“On behalf of myself I’d like to say thank you for everything that you’ve done and I decided to do a secret project for a few months, and I’m here to tell you that there was no interview, that was a lie, this is your house that I am presenting to you, this is your new house, it belongs to you,” he said.
The news didn’t seem to immediately sink in, as his parents sat there blank-faced, possibly in shock at the generous gift. He and his sister had to repeatedly say “this is your house” before they appeared to finally get the message.
“I just thought it’s best that you live in an environment and place where you’re happy and you have space and privacy.”
As Boyega continued to explain his gratitude, his father, Samson Boyega, began to cry, and all of our hearts melted.
“This is just my physical appreciation, honestly from the bottom of my heart, thank you so so much for everything you have done,” John says.
Boyega’s dad tearfully asks him if he’s sure. “Yes, it’s yours,” the actor says as he bends down for a hug. Nobody can handle it.
He thanked them for his success.
