On October 4th, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany took off her mask to speak with reporters about Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis. On October 5th, she announced that has tested positive for the novel coronavirus herself, making her one of the many White House staffers and senior Republicans to contract the virus.

She tweeted about her diagnosis, writing, “After testing negative consistently, including every day since Thursday, I tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday morning while experiencing no symptoms.”

And that’s why quarantine exists, honey! Many people carrying the virus are asymptomatic, so when you have an awareness of close contact with an infected person, you’re supposed to self-quarantine for the virus’s incubation period. I think that by Friday at the latest McEnany knew she’d had some contact with infected persons, don’t you?

She writes that she “definitively had no knowledge” of the Hope Hicks diagnosis before her press briefing on Thursday, which implies she’d heard something unconfirmed about it to me.

“As an essential worker,” McEnany continued, “I have worked diligently to provide needed information to the American People at this time. With my recent positive test, I will begin the quarantine process.”

If you feel the earth move, it’s the force of every actual essential worker rolling their eyes at once.
