Meghan McCain spends a lot of time talking about conservative men and to conservative men. She might only talk to women when she appears as a co-host on The View, where she mostly talks about her dad, John McCain, no matter how irrelevant to the conversation he is.
This weekend, McCain appeared on the “The Ben Shapiro Show Sunday Special” where she was given the opportunity to do her favorite things. Shapiro is a proud (and horrible) conservative talking head and McCain got to chat with him all about her husband, Federalist editor (and noted plagiarist) Ben Domenech. She wants the world to know that her husband’s conservative credentials are what made him the one.
“When we went out the first time, I was like, this is a totally different vibe and it’s way better. I tell women: Conservative men have better family values, and they take dating and family and marriage more seriously,” McCain said. “I think if you’re serious, which I was when I met my husband, about getting married and having kids and wanting to go to the next phase, I just found … finally dating a conservative man was the one. He took it seriously.”
A few awkward things though:
Before McCain and Domenech were married and presumably before they’d ever met, Domenech tweeted “DO NOT WANT” in relation to a post about dating McCain. He’s obviously gotten over his former aversion to her, but these aren’t exactly the words of a loving, considerate, and serious man. They’re the words of a total troll:

The other awkward thing is that Ben Shapiro wrote an entire screed against Meghan McCain when he was 25, so ten years ago (but still hosted on the Creators.com website). Again, it’s possible they’ve talked it out in private and made their peace, but his story was absolutely horrendous and basically a tirade about her posting a selfie that showed a little cleavage.
Here’s a sample of what Shapiro had to say about McCain then:
“Meghan McCain may hold a double-digit IQ (barely), but there is no way she could post a photo like this for millions to see without recognizing that there would be some blowback. No one cares what she does when she is “alone in her apartment” — we only care what she does when she places her front on public display.
But should we truly be surprised by this behavior? She is an attention hog, and she is getting the attention she probably lacked at home by blabbing about her butt, her boobs and her gay friends to a slobbering media eager to discredit her father. The truth is, there’s nothing to see here, except a woman desperate for the spotlight.”
Conservative values in action once again! It’s pretty hypocritical of Shapiro to call McCain an attention hog when he starts to die every time the lights go off. The two of them actually deserve one another.
“Conservatives, in general, are going to be—by a certain swath of the media [called] evil, bad, ugly, crazy—put the nasty name attached to it, and that’s how you get Trump.” McCain told Shapiro at one point. “When all of us are evil and nasty, then no one is.”
That’s the real glue in conservative households—being the worst. Together.
