A tenant named Nejat Ozsu is refusing to leave his apartment on the Upper West Side which is being developed into condos, because he says he and his puppy have nowhere to go. The luxury condo development is valued at $70 million dollars, but that’s not really Ozsu’s problem. He and his lawyer Adam Leitman are fighting his eviction with everything they’ve got.
They both claim that Ozsu has been facing bullying tactics from his landlord, including sound pollution like running and industrial fan outside his window. “The only purpose is to make noise to bother him,” the attorney told Inside Edition.
The tenant has been offered $30,000 to move out of his one-bedroom penthouse apartment, which he currently rents for $3,350 per month. Yes, that’s a lot of money, but he honestly probably couldn’t find something similar at that price in that neighborhood right now. The man’s story got posted on Twitter and of course, a lot of people have opinions on whether or not this constitutes a generous offer.
The landlord claimed that Ozsu is holding out to get more money out of him and it’s a scam. Except he’s basically within his rights to do so? If you have $70 million to spend, $30,000 is pretty measly, especially when weighed against delays and ongoing lawsuits. Hard to feel sorry for anyone but Ozsu in these circumstances.
