The Twitter account for the Arizona Republican Party posted a photo of a painting depicting Donald Trump in a blue and gold Revolutionary War uniform, complete with American flag and bald eagle. He also appears to be pulling an old-timey pistol out of his belt, maybe because he saw someone wearing a mask during a pandemic, it’s not clear.
Regardless, the result is exactly what you would expect.
Pro-Trump Republicans have made a habit out of creating, finding, and/or posting paintings like this that make the outgoing president look like some kind of mythical war hero. Naturally, Trump critics emerge each time to point out the fact that he’s a draft dodger whose dad probably paid a doctor to diagnose him with “bone spurs” to get him out of fighting in Vietnam.
Regardless, these images speak to a stark disconnect between how certain sections of the population see Donald Trump. While some people clearly view him as the next George Washington, others remember another famous name that came out of that time. Benedict something.
That and the various real photos of Trump looking like an absolute buffoon has resulted in some hilarious responses to the Arizona Republican Party tweet.
