Accusing Donald Trump of racism is like calling the sky blue at this point, but it still needs to be done on a regular basis. It’s been happening a lot lately in regards to Trump’s continued attacks against Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, and others. Trump’s has been encouraging racist chants at his rallies to “send her back” to her country, though she is a naturalized citizen of the United States. Those chants were inspired by Trump’s own tweets about Omar, and Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib, who were all born in America.
One thing that can be said for Trump: he is ultimately only interested in himself. Investigations into his conduct and possible impeachment have him lashing out at different people this week, specifically Representative Elijah Cummings.
I'm begging the American people to pay attention to what is going on. Because if you want to have a democracy intact for your children, and your children's children, and generations yet unborn we've got to guard this moment…this is our watch. pic.twitter.com/ShTZwbQROP— Elijah E. Cummings (@RepCummings) July 24, 2019
Rep. Cummings is a Democrat who represents Maryland’s 7th Congressional District, including West Baltimore, The Root reports. He is also the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, which is in charge of some of these Trump Triggering investigations. You know what that means! A series of racist tweets about Cummings, Baltimore, and whatever else he free associates with both:
Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA......— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 27, 2019
....As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 27, 2019
So sad that Elijah Cummings has been able to do so little for the people of Baltimore. Statistically, Baltimore ranks last in almost every major category. Cummings has done nothing but milk Baltimore dry, but the public is getting wise to the bad job that he is doing!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 28, 2019
Baltimore, under the leadership of Elijah Cummings, has the worst Crime Statistics in the Nation. 25 years of all talk, no action! So tired of listening to the same old Bull...Next, Reverend Al will show up to complain & protest. Nothing will get done for the people in need. Sad!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 29, 2019
If racist Elijah Cummings would focus more of his energy on helping the good people of his district, and Baltimore itself, perhaps progress could be made in fixing the mess that he has helped to create over many years of incompetent leadership. His radical “oversight” is a joke!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 28, 2019
There is nothing racist in stating plainly what most people already know, that Elijah Cummings has done a terrible job for the people of his district, and of Baltimore itself. Dems always play the race card when they are unable to win with facts. Shame!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 28, 2019
Notice how elegantly he notes the accusations of racism, and then decides to call Cummings racist. ANYWAY.
If you’ve been to Baltimore, you know that Trump’s statements are as addled, incorrect, and horrifying as ever! And the residents of Baltimore are not standing for it. Using the hashtag #WeAreBaltimore, people are responding to Trump:
#WeAreBaltimore every woman in this picture lives in Baltimore City. Every woman in this picture wakes up & tries to give back. They are social workers, administrators & therapist. We aren’t a caricature or subhuman. pic.twitter.com/8cWbpoLOX8— Tanya ✨????️???? (@TEE1031) July 27, 2019
We are proud to call the great city of Baltimore home, and stand united for our resilient, creative and optimistic fellow Baltimoreans. It’s called Charm City for good reason. ❤️ #WeAreBaltimore proud. pic.twitter.com/OXibPoU2eK— JohnsHopkinsMedicine (@HopkinsMedicine) July 29, 2019
The hashtag was kicked off by reporter April Ryan, who has been the target of Trump’s racism herself. First, she made a joke about the vermin infesting the White House, before asking for people to defend Baltimore:
The White House is infested with mice. Mice traps all over the place. We see dead mice in traps and mice running around a lot. Stink bugs infest the East Wing and what else??? Too much to tweet. @realDonaldTrump must be talking about where he lives instead of Baltimore!— AprilDRyan (@AprilDRyan) July 27, 2019
The people of Baltimore are defending Charm City because they live there and love it and want people to know the president’s characterization of it is completely delusional. But even people outside of Baltimore are disgusted with Trump and wanted to note the racism of his attacks on a black man and a city with a large population of African-American residents.
Trump has mentioned variations of the word "infest" 7 times in his many tweets only with.— Alex Cole (@acnewsitics) July 28, 2019
1. Elijah Cummings
2. Ilhan Omar
6. John Lewis
7. Barack Obama
Trump is a stone cold racist and it couldn't be any more obvious.#WeAreBaltimore
It’s completely unacceptable for the political leader of our country to denigrate a vibrant American City like Baltimore, and to viciously attack U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings a patriot and a hero. pic.twitter.com/TJdbST6Md9— Mayor Bernard C. Jack Young (@mayorbcyoung) July 27, 2019
.@RepCummings is a champion in the Congress and the country for civil rights and economic justice, a beloved leader in Baltimore, and deeply valued colleague. We all reject racist attacks against him and support his steadfast leadership. #ElijahCummingsIsAPatriot https://t.co/2LG8AuQrHh— Nancy Pelosi (@SpeakerPelosi) July 27, 2019
Trump seems determined to continue his attacks, but a lot of people are giving Rep. Cummings their full support. Especially in regards to those impeachment talks…
