Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, the guy who has been terrorizing his people with his horrifically brutal “kill anyone who uses drugs” campaign that Trump has said the U.S. should emulate, said during a visit to Japan that he used to be gay but “cured” himself. He said this while attempting to mock a political opponent, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, by calling him gay.

“They said, ‘You ask any gay person who sees Trillanes move, they’ll say he’s gay.’ No wonder. Good thing Trillanes and I are similar. But I cured myself,” said Duterte, according to Filipino news outlet Rappler. He then said that when he started a relationship with his ex-wife, he “became a man again.”

He later called himself gay and said he didn’t care if he was, contradicting his previous statement, just like someone else we know who loves to do that.

Duterte claims to be Catholic and has expressed support for the gay community in the past, though he has attacked trans people, claiming it’s an aspect of U.S. culture that “does not apply to us.” He has also clashed with the Catholic church multiple times, particularly over the church’s criticism of his genocidal “war on drugs” in which Duterte has encouraged his police and citizens to murder anyone suspected of taking an illicit substance.

Over in the U.S., people are not convinced that Duterte cured himself of gayness as he claimed.

Others think he would be better of embracing his sexuality. Maybe that would make him knock it off with all the murder?

He probably takes drugs, too.
