Another day, another instance of appalling racist abuse caught on video. A white Florida woman, now known on social media as “Pick It Up Peggy,” appeared in a short clip uploaded to Facebook this week screaming at a black teenager over a dropped gum wrapper.
The video of the incident, which took place in St. Petersburg, Florida, shows an unidentified woman wearing sunglasses and screaming at a 14-year-old black boy who seemed to be about to pick up the gum wrapper before she intervened.
“Nuh-uh, don’t lean back like that,” the woman says at the beginning of the clip. “Pick it up, find it, get down on your knees and find it.”
**********************UPDATE**********************My family would like to first thank those who have expressed their genuine concern towards my younger brother in regards to the below video. The point of this post is/was to continue to raise awareness regarding inappropriate behavior, and racism in our city, country, and world. Please note that we are not a confrontational family, and we are not looking for vengeance towards this woman, nor are we looking to fight racism, with racism. ❤️🌏***************************************************Actual footage of a woman talking to my 14 year old brother and cousin in this manner, near Williams Park in St. Pete today, because he dropped a gum wrapper on the ground, he was going to pick it up until she started calling him out of his name. Almost 2020 and we still are dealing with being spoken to in this manner over what exactly? A gum wrapper. Tasteless. 🙄.Posted by Deysha Adriana on Sunday, October 6, 2019
After telling him again to “get down on [his] knees and find it,” the teen is seen laughing and looking down at his phone before turning to walk away. That’s when the woman begins her racist attack.
“Don’t care little [N-word],” she screams. “That’s how you are. All y’all… no care fucking [N-word].” When she realizes she’s being filmed, she shouts, “Film me, f**kers, film me!”
This wasn't about littering for her. It was about exerting her privilege and perceived sense of superiority. She had his attention until she came with the "get down on your hands and knees" BS.— JustCallMeHerb (@JusCallMeHerb) October 7, 2019
The video, which been viewed more than 150,000 times, also caught the attention of St. Petersburg City Council member Steve Kornell, who shared the video on Sunday and asked for help identifying the teen so that they could “honor” him for his politeness.
“If anyone knows this young man I would love to honor him at this week’s City Council meeting for his extreme politeness towards this woman who did not deserve it at all,” he wrote. “It says a great deal about him and about her.”
Even before she said the n-word, the "Get down on your knees" was telling.— barney_trouble (@BTrouble86) October 8, 2019
He shouldn’t be very hard to track down given that the original video was filmed and posted by Deyshia Adriana, the older sister of the teen who recently posted an update on her Facebook page thanking people for their support and encouraging peace.
“My family would like to first thank those who have expressed their genuine concern towards my younger brother in regards to the below video,” she wrote.
As soon as she's outed, she'll do her "I'm so sorry, that's just NOT me...I don't have a prejudiced bone in my body" BS. I really hate people like her.— The Mad Hatter of Austin (@cjkeller) October 7, 2019

Oddly enough, there seems to be no attempt to identify the woman in the clip in order to hold her accountable for her racist behavior. It’s an all-too-common occurrence that seems to be happening more and more thanks to the president emboldening this kind of hatred and discrimination. Here’s hoping we can restore some level of sanity to this country sometime soon.
