People on Twitter are just now finding out about David Allen Bawden, a man in Oklahoma who goes by the name “Pope Michael” and believes all the actual Popes who have served after the year are heretics and not legitimate church leaders.

“Losing my mind over this,” @ShaneSheehy tweeted alongside a screenshot of Bawden’s Wikipedia page.

The text explains that Bawden was “elected” as pope by a random group of six, including himself and his parents. Further information on the same page explains that Bawden tried really hard to get some real bishops to attend the election, but his request was ignored.

Bawden’s audacity at claiming to be the most important living human figure in the Catholic Church is winning him fans online as Sheehy’s tweets circulate.

And sure, Pope Michael’s claims may seem a little ridiculous to some.

But that isn’t stopping the true believers.
