In spite of everything that’s happened this year, from pandemic to murder hornets to mass protests, there is still an election in November. That is, as long as we don’t let Trump “postpone” or entirely cancel it, and we’d better not. Especially because the polls do not look good for him so far, and a lot of people who voted for him in 2016 have since changed their minds.

If you need evidence for that last bit, a recent AskReddit thread posed the question: “U.S. citizens who voted for Trump last time, who will not be voting for him this time…. what changed your mind?” So far, 2.4 thousand comments have been written with many people telling stories about themselves or people they know explaining what made them decide to ditch Trump in 2020.

Some of the answers are long and complex, others are surprisingly simple. If there’s a theme to be found among them, it’s that education and being informed about the candidates and the issues are essential if you want a competent president. Also, if you are president, you should probably not cage children, ignore warnings about impending pandemics, and not threaten military force on your own citizens.
