DeAnna Lorraine, who still starts her Twitter bio with the fact that she is a former (and failed) challenger to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, nearly broke the internet today by suggesting that the singing competition show The Masked Singer is some kind of pro-mask conspiracy. The right-wing pundit said she found it “interesting” that the show launched in 2019 and concluded that it’s “almost like they were beginning to condition the public that masks were ‘normal’ and ‘cool.'”
The Masked Singer is a reality competition series that takes celebrities and puts them in elaborate costumes to conceal their identities to sing and be judged and guess at who they are. It was adapted from South Korea’s King of Mask Singer, which first premiered in February 2015. The competition went international two months later.
It’s unclear whether or not Lorraine knew this about the show when she first tweeted her conspiracy theory, but she might now after people flooded her mentions to make fun of her for it. The mockery hit so hard and fast that she posted follow-up tweets accusing everyone of being paid by George Soros to tweet and calling them “sheep.”
