People Respond To Trump Tweet About Striking At “King”

Since Donald Trump was elected people have joked that it was only a matter of time until the man declared himself oligarch, and it seems like that time is now approaching. On Saturday, Trump tweeted some alarming things comparing himself to a king, which is we need to be reminded, is someone who is appointed for life through a process that in no way resembles democracy. He started:

“Ralph Waldo Emerson seemed to foresee the lesson of the Senate Impeachment Trial of President Trump. ‘When you strike at the King, Emerson famously said, “you must kill him.’ Mr. Trump’s foes struck at him but did not take him down. A triumphant Mr.Trump emerges from the…..

The threatening quote continued in a second tweet:

…..biggest test of his presidency emboldened, ready to claim exoneration, and take his case of grievance, persecution and resentment to the campaign trail.” Peter Baker @nytimes The Greatest Witch Hunt In American History!

Trump is basically implying his impeachment trials exonerated him, and his enemies should have “killed him” rather than try to hold him accountable for his crimes because now he is planning to use his power for vengeance. Very good and normal.

A number of legal authorities, like lawyers, academics, and more, have commented on what an ominous new train of thought and speech this is for Trump, a man who has tweeted many ominous things.

Barbara McQuade who is a Michigan law professor NBC news analyst, wrote, “This may be the most sinister tweet Trump has ever posted. He is comparing himself with a king and threatening to use his powers for revenge on those who questioned his abuse of power. This after AG Barr said Trump’s tweets make it hard for him to do his job. Any response Mr. AG?”

But as #NotAKing began to trend on Twitter, there were many more:

Fred Guttenberg, the father of Parkland shooting victim Jaime Guttenberg, also had some words for the president.

Considering Trump’s behavior at the State of the Union address, Nancy Pelosi should watch her back. Trump’s trying to bring back Game of Thrones to a White House near you.
